Our Services

The Walk In Clinic for Animals operates in the space between general practice and emergency referral hospitals. We work closely with other Canberra region veterinary clinics to provide an after-hours veterinary service that suits your needs. We provide comprehensive care for pets of all ages and breeds and offer a wide range of services, including the services listed below.

General Check-ups:

We offer comprehensive general exams for all pets, including a physical exam, vaccinations, and a review of your pet’s medical history. Our vets will examine your pet’s overall appearance, including their weight, body condition, and skin. They will also check their eyes, ears, nose, mouth, heart, lungs, abdomen and musculoskeletal system. If they notice anything unusual, they might do further in-depth examinations such as ophthalmic (eye), otoscopic (ear) or neurological (brain) exams.

Vaccinations:

We offer a variety of vaccinations to protect your pet from common diseases. Whilst we recommend a strong, ongoing relationship with your regular veterinarian for routine, preventative care, if you require vaccinations for boarding or other urgent reasons, we can assist. Our team will assess your pet’s health, review your pet’s vaccination history, administer any necessary vaccinations and monitor your pet for any reactions.

Itchy Skin and Skin Allergies:

We investigate possible causes of the allergy, recommend treatment options such as antihistamines, immune-modulating medications, corticosteroids or antibiotics; environmental changes, such as avoiding certain allergens; or a combination of both and provide expert recommendations on supportive care in conjunction with your regular veterinarian.

Ear Infections:

If your pet is showing symptoms of having an ear infection, including scratching or shaking their head, rubbing their ears against objects, or if there is discharge, redness or pain in their ears we can help. Our team will work to diagnose the cause of the infection, clean the ears and prescribe medication to help your pet to recover.

Minor Wounds:

If your pet is suffering from a minor would, we can help with cleaning the wound, removing any foreign objects, closing the wound, prescribing any necessary medication and we’ll also provide you with comprehensive instructions for your pet’s aftercare.

Bandage Changes:

If your pet is suffering from a larger wound, our veterinary team can help you with assessing the wound to see how it is healing and check for any signs of infection, removing old bandages and clean the wound, apply new bandages and provide advice for your pets at home wound aftercare.

Unwanted Ingestions:

If your pet accidently eats something it shouldn’t, such as chocolate, grapes, plastic toys or any number of unwanted objects, we can help by making an assessment, administering medication to make your pet vomit (emesis), caring for them during the emesis procedure and then administering medication to stop the vomiting. We will also discuss aftercare such as use of charcoal.

Euthanasia:

Euthanasia is the act of ending the life of a pet in a painless and humane way. It is a difficult decision for pet owners to make, but it can be a compassionate option for pets that are suffering from a terminal illness or who are in uncontrollable pain. Our team ensure that your pet is comfortable and that you are supported during the procedure, to make it as stress free as possible.

Gastroenteritis:

If your pet is suffering from gastroenteritis, our veterinary team can help identify and treat the cause by analysing your pet’s symptoms. We may also recommend blood tests, ultrasounds, x-rays, urinalysis, or faecal analysis to rule out other possible causes. Our team will help treat the underlying cause, providing medications and supportive care and monitoring your pet’s progress.

Unwell Assessments:

If you think that your pet is feeling unwell, you can bring them in to the Walk In Animal Clinic for an unwell assessment. Our veterinary team will take a history of your pet and their symptoms, perform a physical exam and order any necessary tests. Our team will make a diagnosis and start treatment, providing you with instructions for caring for your pet at home.
